Massage is an amazing component to achieve and maintain health and wellness. In my 25+ years as a LMT I have had the honor of massaging and assisting pregnant women through all three trimesters, at their births, performed infant massage and then massaged all ages from small children with developmental issues to the elderly with issues ranging from arthritic lack of range of motion to breathing issues. I have worked in spas, wellness centers and doctors offices. Below you will find the different types of massage that I perform.
TYPES OF MASSAGE
Swedish massage is done on a table, the client undresses and is draped appropriately with the sheet. You are always fully covered except for the area being worked on. Oil or gel is used on the skin to perform the massage.
This is Japanese finger pressure. The client lays on the table fully clothed and an evaluation is performed through questions asked, the therapist's observations of the client and from actually assessing the clients energy by palpating the persons Hara. The Hara is the area just below the ribs to the area just above the pelvis.
Myofascial release is a technique used along with Swedish massage where through gentle pressure applied at an angle helps release the fascia under the skin just covering the muscles. This technique is great to help increase range of motion and help release muscle tension.
Pregnant women enjoy the benefits of massage from the beginning of conception right up to labor. it helps ease the tensions and pains they experience of their ever changing body through this amazing transformational time. It's important that women are experiencing a normal pregnancy to receive this or have a doctors note giving permission with instructions if there are issues present.
